Our mission is very straightforward.
MOCSA exists to improve the lives of those impacted by sexual abuse and sexual assault and prevent sexual violence in our community.
Why we work toward this mission daily is equally straightforward. Sexual violence is not something that happens in other places — it takes place right here, in Kansas City, every single day. And the impact is devastating, touching not only the victims, but every member of the family, friends, the workplace. Too often, it happens within a family or within a circle of friends or acquaintances — over 80% of sexual violence is committed by someone the victim knows, not by a stranger.
One in six women will be the victim of completed or attempted rape. One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused during childhood. And without support and help, the damage can last a lifetime. So our singular mission is to do everything we can to prevent these crimes from happening and to be there to offer support and hope when they do occur.
We help victims become survivors.
